Instructions for using Your UMKC Web Space for Classes
- You will be using your UMKC Web Space for this class.
- You can find out more info about your UMKC Web Space at this URL:
- Use your UMKC UserID for email and Web Space
- The UMKC Web Space is mapped to the N: drive in the CST/IT/SICE computer labs in FH or in any of the IS General Computing Labs (at UC, Bloch, CH, or MNL).
- To use this account from the A&S lab in 303 RH, you will need to use the FTP information below.
- Your UMKC Web Space URL will look something like this:
- http://a.students.umkc.edu/abc123/ or http://u.students.umkc.edu/username/ or mine, for example, is http://e.students.umkc.edu/EnglishN/ (NOTE: that the letter before "students" is the first letter of your username.)
- To work from home, you can use the NEW manner of FTP using a browser or use WS_FTP. What is described below will allow you to FTP to your N: drive account Web space.
- To use FTP from home, the URL will look like this:
- ftp://a.students.umkc.edu/ (then log into your username...for example, abc123, and password). In other words, ftp://u.students.umkc.edu/ then log in with username and password. Mine, for example, would be ftp://e.students.umkc.edu/, then I would login with my username of EnglishN and my password. (NOTE: that the letter before "students" is the first letter of your username.)
- If you are using WS_FTP, you would use the same host as above, the same as for your URL. For example, I would use WS_FTP to FTP to the host of e.students.umkc.edu Then I would log in with my username of EnglishN and my password. (NOTE: that the letter before "students" is the first letter of your username.)
- NOTE: For Carry-over students, you may need to copy your IT222 and Web files from the Y: to the N: so that they can be seen from the Web.
- Your FIRST Assignment on the Web is to create a home page for yourself on your Student Web Site. Name the homepage "default.htm". You can do it using either Front Page or Netscape Composer in the labs or any other Web page editor you wish to use. On the homepage, include the following information:
- Name
- UMKC Username UserID
- Email address (include off-campus address if you will be using one, separate using a semicolon;)
- A link to the course homepage.
- You can add other things as well, as long as this information is made available for grading purposes.
