How do you create a new document?

When you start Word or Excel a new blank document is created for you. To create a new document after Word or Excel has been started, select New... from the File menu. (You can also click on the icon on the standard toolbar.)

Creating a new document

Both Word and Excel have templates and wizards for many common types of documents. Templates are preformatted documents you can modify for your specific needs. Wizards are interactive dialog boxes that lead you through the creation of a document. To create a new document from a template or wizard, select New... from the File menu followed by a template or wizard icon. The above animation initially opens to the templates and wizards for letters and faxes.
