A filter allows you to work with a smaller, more focused, group of records.
For tables with more than a few records, you will often be interested in only a subset of the records at any one time. For example, suppose you have a database of equipment your department owns. If you want to print a list of employees who have been assigned a Pentium class computer, you could apply a filter to select this subset of records. You could then create a report that listed only these selected records.
