Why does the computer sometimes mislabel the legend and other parts of the chart?

If you're not getting the title, legend, or axis labels the way you want them in a chart, here's how to set them right.

First, check to make sure that you've selected the correct range of cells.

Series and category labels are drawn from the top row and leftmost column of cells selected. If you want either of these to be blank in the chart, include blank cells in your selection. Otherwise Excel may give them generic names, such as "Series 1."

You can also use the Source Data.../Series command from the Chart menu to change these labels to any names you like, without having to enter those names into spreadsheet cells.

Title, and axis labels can be set using the Chart Options... command from the Chart menu whenever the chart is selected. (Note: The Chart menu is only available when a chart is selected.)
