Folders (or directories) are used to organize documents on your diskette. Just as filing cabinets and manila folders are used to organize documents in the physical world, folders are used to organize documents on your diskette. Without folders all your files would be lumped together. Your CS100VU documents would be mixed in with your personal letters, the files used by your operating system, and files you downloaded from the Internet. Soon you wouldn't be able to get any work done because you would be spending all your time trying to find certain files. The solution is to create folders on your diskette, and save related documents in the same folder. Folders are hierarchical. Your diskette (A:, C:, etc.) may contain a folder which contains a folder which contains.... If you organize your folders well and give them meaningful names you will have a much easier time finding the documents you need. Folders are created with your operating system. If you need more information see your operating system documentation. |
