What is a word processor?

A word processor is a computer program (software) used to create documents. One of the programs in the Microsoft Office suite of products is a word processor, Word. Before word processors, typewriters were used to create high-quality documents. A word processor offers a significant advantage over a typewriter because the document can be saved to a computer disk and edited repeatedly. There are various formatting tools that allow you to create a professional-looking document. Many current word processors contain tools to integrate graphics, to create web pages, to create newsletter-formats, etc.
