How do you start Access?
How do you open an existing database?

You start Access the same way you start Excel and Word. Access works a bit differently than Excel and Word, though. When you start Access you are greeted with the following interface. (in older version you get a dialog box).

The next objective looks at creating a new database. Right now let's look at opening an existing database.

If the database is one you have used recently, chances are it will be listed on the right-hand side under the heading "Open a File" (see Figure 1). Otherwise, you will need to select More Files... and use the dialog box to search for your database file. A database document is represented on disk as a single file with a .mdb suffix.
