You've learned how to double-click or drag to select text on the screen. Suppose you want to select an especially long section of text, say, several pages' worth. How would you do it?
There are two ways.
You can use the dragging method that you're already familiar with. Press the mouse button down at either the beginning or the end of the block you want to select, then drag through the text until the whole area is selected. As you drag past the end of the page, the window will automatically scroll to accommodate your selection, and you simply release the mouse button when you have selected everything that you want.
Another way is to set the insertion point at one end or the other of your proposed selection by clicking (and releasing) the mouse. Then scroll the window if necessary to the other end of the proposed selection and shift-click at that point. Everything between those two click points is now selected.
