How do you count the number of words in your document?

Tools Menu, Word Count selected When writing for publications such as magazines and newspapers there are often targets or limits on the number of words you can write. Word provides a simple command for determining the number of words in your document or a section of your document. 

To determine the number of words in your document,

  1. Make sure no text is selected or highlighted.
  2. Choose the Word Count... command from the Tools menu
  3. An information box will be displayed with a count of the words in your document.

If you want to count the number of words in a section of your document, highlight the section first, and then choose the Word Count command.
